Almost half of office workers would be willing to see their wages reduced in exchange for being able to work from home
In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, many workers have had to leave their workplace to connect from home. This experience has uncovered the benefits of teleworking, and many would never return to the office.
In a survey of 2,500 office workers around the world who telecommute during the pandemic, 48% would be willing to see their wages reduced in exchange for continuing to telecommute.
The study has been carried out by OnePoll, a market research company, together with LogMeIn, a platform to access devices remotely. Most of the respondents were in the US, but also participated from India, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
77% of the participants consider teleworking to be effective in preserving the environment. 85% said they were concerned about the environmental impact of commuting to work and 75% felt guilty about it.
According to the survey, these are the 5 best things to work from home: flexible hours, saving money, being able to go to the kitchen, using what you want from home and not having to leave things pending for the weekend
72% of those surveyed stated that they would have much more free time working from home, since, on average, they spent an hour a day commuting to their workplace. 66% stated that they would save money, since they would not spend on commuting or childcare.
Other notable benefits of working in the survey are greater productivity (37%), more flexible hours (57%), spending more time with family and friends (56%), being happier (47%) and being able to access more easily to the kitchen (46%).
"We have long seen the benefits of remote working to allow employees to have more flexible hours, but one of the unexpected benefits is the impact it is having on the environment," says Mark Strassman, vice president of LogMeIn.
